Me and You

At the end of the book “Me and You”, Lorenzo went visit Olivia ten years later. Ten years earlier, they met in the basement, and there were several events happened. Lorenzo was hiding in the basement pretended that he was out for the ski week with friends. Then Olivia suddenly came and ignored Lorenzo’s secret life in the basement. At first, Lorenzo refused to let his half sister to stay with him in the basement. However, he felt sympathy about Olivia’s condition after he heard about her life experience. He wanted to help her, and he wanted to talked with her. After the time staying with Olivia, Lorenzo built up good relationship between him and Olivia. They promised each other to keep contact in the future. The story suddenly end, in the new page, it was already ten years later. Lorenzo went to see Olivia, but the place he went was the hospital, sadly, Olivia was dead at the end of the story. I did not expect that would happened at the end of the story, I thought it wasn’t a sad story as I was reading it. It is a story which talked about the relationship between Lorenzo and Olivia. It also talked about how those two characters changed.

As I read through the page which Olivia left in the morning with a note she left, I thought the story was end. However, when I switch to the next page, the story was continued with 10 years later. I felt surprised that the story ended that way, probably, the author wants us to feel Lorenzo’s feeling which he finally met her sister again after 10 years, but Olivia was dead. The author wants us to think about what might Lorenzo feel when he found out her sister was dad. Lorenzo must be very sad. Olivia was the person who had changed him from the boy who don’t know how to deal with people. She must be very important to Lorenzo. In my own, I expected that, the story would end with Olivia stopped taking drugs and she found her way to live, Lorenzo made a lot of friends, and he built up good relationship with others.

Although it is a sad story at the end, the story itself is really nice. It makes reader to think, and we learn things from reading it. From Lorenzo, I learned: we should not only care about ourselves. We need to think more about others, and care about them. After you start to love others, others start to love you. That is how good relationship is built. We shouldn’t hide ourselves, because at last the person who get hurt is ourselves. We feel lonely, do the thing we don’t want to do. From Olivia, I learned, we should care about ourselves. We should never do the thing which would hurt our body. We need to live with hope, so that we could find our way.

How has Lorenzo changed by the end

At the end of the story, Lorenzo changed from a boy who was lonely to a boy who knew how to deal with relationship. He used to have no friends, and do not have good relationships with his parents. He was hiding himself and pretended to be like others. He did not have real friends. After he met Olivia, he started to care about others. He felt sympathy about his sister's life, and he wanted to helped her. In return, he built up a good relationship between he and Olivia, and he felt love from her. He started to feel confident staying with other people, and perhaps he knew how to deal relationship. In the book, when Lorenzo was dancing with Olivia, he felt alive which he never felt before. "But that evening I danced, and when I danced I felt something I’d never felt before. I felt alive –it took my breath away. In a few hours I would leave that cellar. And everything might go back to the way it was. And yet I knew that beyond that door the world was waiting for me, and that I would be able to talk to the others like I was one of them. Decide to do things and then actually do them. I could leave. I could go to boarding school. I could change the furniture in my bedroom."(Niccolo Ammaiti) He realized that it was because he could be himself, he wasn't living in that fake word created by himself anymore. He learned that he need to care not only himself but also others after he met Olivia.

Analysis

From that we can see that, Lorenzo started to care about others. He felt sorry and sympath about Olivia. He changed from the boy who only care about himself.

Lorenzo and Olivia (Me and You)

     During Chapter 5 and 6, Lorenzo got a phone call from a woman while he was hiding in the basement. It was Olivia, his half-sister. She called him to make sure if there was anybody at home. Olivia was the daughter of Lorenzo's father and another woman from Como. She was born before Lorenzo's father divorced and married Lorenzo's mom. Lorenzo only met Olivia one time when he was twelve and he heard about his half-sister sometimes while his parent were talking about her in the car.
     Lorenzo enjoyed spending his time in the basement until Olivia came and disturbed him.At first, Olivia just came inside of his room and started to find the box that she gave to his father. For Lorenzo, he was happy that his stepsister did not care why he was hiding in the basement and he was curious about his sister. However, Olivia came again at 3:00 am and she asked if she could sleep there. Lorenzo refused her because it was his cellar and there was only room for one person. He felt that he had organised everything and now her sister came and mess it all up. Lorenzo let her in because she started to shouted out loud that Lorenzo was hiding in the basement. He let her in and only allowed her to stay for one night.  In the next morning, Lorenzo woke up while Olivia was still sleeping. He wanted to leave her for a little longer until she woke up. In my opinion, I think Lorenzo felt sorry about what his dad do to his sister, and he sympathized about her life. However, he wanted to clear that he was tough and one night is one night, she need to leave after she woke up. Although Olivia's condition was bad because she probably got the flu, Lorenzo wanted her to leave, because there was not enough food for two people. He felt very sorry about himself because he kept wanting a sick people to go away. After that, his phone rang, and it was Lorenzo's mom. During the call, Lorenzo's mom wanted to talk to Alessia mom. Under the feeling of nasty, he begged Olivia to pretend to be Alessia's mom. 
     At last, Lorenzo finally let Olivia stayed with him. One reason is that he promised that if she helped him and he'll swear that he would do anything for her. And in fact, Olivia acted perfectly like Alessia's mom, if she stayed with him, she could help him anytime when his mom call. Lastly, I think it was because of the sympathy. She was his half-sister, who grew up without a dad. She lacked love, and now she was sick. He felt sorry about Olivia, and maybe he wanted know more about her.

Me and You Chapter One

Larenzo wanted to be independent, and he wanted live by his own. He told his mother that he went skiing, but in fact he went to find his father. However, he did not meet him and he lived in the building where his father lived.

Short Story

       Once upon the time, Jerry went to Bali with his family. It was a family vacation, and they came there to avoid the cold weather in China.
       It wasn't a fun trip and Jerry did not want to go at first, because he prefer to stay in China. As it was a family trip, Jerry had to go. Through the vacation, Jerry was not very happy. He said this place was hot and full of insects. He hoped he could went back to China as soon as possible. His parent got mad at him because of his attitude. They yelled at him: "No matter this place was fun or boring, you need to stay with us. You need to stay with your family.
      At last, Jerry changed his negative attitude. He tried to enjoy this trip, because he had already came here. He fund out there was a lot fun when he was enjoying the trip. He realized that he need to spend more time with his family.
